Our regulated distribution operations deliver natural gas to 3.2 million residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and public-authority customers. Growing and Working For You Atmos Energy has grown from 279,000 customers in 1983 mainly by acquiring utility assets. Our most recent acquisition was the distribution and pipeline operations of TXU Gas Company, the largest natural gas distributor in Texas. Atmos Energy is also the largest natural gas distributor in Louisiana and Mississippi and operates one of the largest intrastate natural gas pipelines in Texas. Because of the geographical breadth of our operations, we benefit from diversity in economic conditions, weather patterns, gas supplies and regulatory climates. Efficiency and Low Cost Atmos Energy is known as one of the most efficient natural gas distribution companies in the industry because of constant cost management. Our employees keep productivity at industry-leading levels. In 2007, we served 713 natural gas distribution customers per employee, as compared with an average of 588 customers per employee served by our peer group. Our natural gas distribution operation and maintenance expense of $119 per customer in fiscal 2007 was also lower than our peer-group average of $202 per customer. Our efficiency helps us better serve our customers, but never at the expense of safety or service. Nonregulated Operations, Too Atmos Energy's nonregulated operations are ranked as one of the leading domestic mid-tier natural gas marketers. We market natural gas supplies to more than 1,000 industrial customers and municipalities in 22 states, arrange for gas transportation and management services, manage company-owned and contracted natural gas storage and pipeline assets and build and operate natural gas gathering systems.
