In 1957, Haley & Aldrich was the first geotechnical engineering consulting company established in New England co-founded by James Haley and Harl Aldrich. In the ensuing decades, Haley & Aldrich built a reputation as one of the most highly respected geotechnical engineering firms in the country. Public concern for environmental protection propelled new national and state regulations in the 1970s like Superfund and the Clean Water Act that impacted clients// development plans and increased pressure for cleanup of hazardous waste. By the mid-//80s, the firm had a well-established and growing practice dedicated to environmental services for facility design and construction and environmental regulatory compliance. The 1990s brought continued enhancements to the company//s service capabilities and geographic expansion. Multi-site environmental program management skills grew out of our remedial investigations and remediation services for major industrial corporations like GM, Xerox and Kodak. Meeting the unprecedented underground engineering challenges of Boston//s massive Central Artery Tunnel project and other demanding engineering assignments created project opportunities throughout the US. By the beginning of the 21st century, Haley & Aldrich had expanded to include offices from the East to West Coast and the capacity to serve transnational clients with a "Global Team" of environmental professionals in 30 countries. Today, our service capability has new dimensions as we work with clients through collaborative web-based program management. Our multi-disciplined professional staff incorporates continued strength in the geosciences with expertise in complex project and program management, strategic regulatory navigation, and the engineering and permitting associated with energy transmission and distribution. A Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 creates funding for many early Haley & Aldrich transportation projects in New England. Employing new techniques in the //70s like tied-back-concrete-diaphragm-wall construction at the 38-story 60 State Street project in Boston won the company its first engineering excellence award.
