Akima has been in the business of providing infrastructure services since its second contract in 1996. It started with a fuels contract at Reese Air Force Base in Texas, managing the fuels operations center - supplying fuel to aircraft and managing the tank farm and transportation distribution system. To date, Akima has acquired more than 50 contracts, most of which involve infrastructure support. These range from specialized scope contracts to complete Base Operations Support Services contracts providing the full range of facility support services. The scope of these contracts has ranged from very complex technical operations and maintenance functions of the NASA Glenn Research Center in Ohio to the single purpose, but comprehensive transportation services at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. The customers for these services have included the Air Force, Army, Navy, NASA, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the Pittsburgh Research Laboratory, and the Department of Agriculture. Akima Facilities Management LLC is one of six subsidiaries of Akima Management Services (AMS), an Alaska Native Corporation formed to pursue government and commercial contracting opportunities. To ensure that we develop meaningful partnerships with each of our customers, fulfill their quality performance and service expectations, and achieve our customersƒ?? missions and objectives, Akima restructured in January 2004. Akima Facilities Management LLC, an 8(a) operating company of Akima Management Services, was established in order to pursue work its predecessor company, Akima Corporation, was no longer eligible to perform as a graduate of the Small Business Administrationƒ??s 8(a) program.
