Performing compaction testing of soils under slabs and as it is being backfilled into trenches with a nuclear gauge. Inspecting the placement, size, and gauge of rebar making sure it is properly formed and spaced before allowing the pouring of concrete. Testing concrete for proper slump, temperature and air content before making cylinders that will later be taken to the shop to be tested for compressive strength. Observing the drilling and placement of pier holes for support of slabs or bridges. Inspecting the rebar cages to be placed in holes. Sampling the concrete to test slump and temperature also making cylinders for compression testing. Inspecting placement of post tension cables and later their tension. Speed Fab-Crete: July & August 2008 – QC Inspector. Checked size, type and proper rebar placement for retaining wall panels to be used by the Texas Department of Transportation in new bridge construction. Many were used in murals requiring different patterns of fractured and smooth portions to properly make a mural possibly 100 to 150 foot long by 40 to 60 foot high. Inspect the slump and temperature of the concrete to maintain specific TxDOT specifications and make cylinders to be tested for compression. Also performed pycnometer tests on both course and fine aggregates daily and weekly.
