Job Description:	You must hold a current USCG Merchant Mariner Document, STCW 95 Certificate, Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and passport. The general guideline for vessel assignment length is 90 days for unlicensed personnel. Vacation will accrue at 21 days for each 30 days of work. Pre-employment screening consists of: - Physical examination, including DOT drug testing - Functional capacity evaluation - Background check Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: * Safety - Must be able to work safely and follow all company procedures. * Direction - Takes work direction from Chief Engineer, 1st Engineer or Chief Mate. * Welding - Must possess good welding skills with Arc, Gas, TIG and soldering. Being certified is very desirable. * General fabrication - Must be able to fabricate brackets, fixtures, etc with welding and fasteners. * Pipefitting - Must be able to fit all kinds of pipe and tubing, threaded, welded or compression fittings. * Valves - Ability to overhaul Gate, Globe, P/V, Butterfly, Block & Bleed is desirable. * Deck machinery - Must be able to service and work on mooring winches, anchor windlasses, deck cranes. * Machine tool use - Must be proficient using lathe, drill press, milling machine, and all portable power hand tools. * Hand tools - Must be proficient using all hand tools. * Ships Systems - Needs to have the ability to understand piping systems and how they function. Safety: - Active and positive participant in monthly safety meeting. - Points out unsafe acts or conditions to everyone on board. - Stops work if unsafe conditions or practices are uncovered. - Able to participate in an Emergency Response team. Teamwork/Working With Others: - Effective in relating to others - Willing to assist others. - Works well under pressure. - Maintains an appropriate demeanor and appearance. Company Description:	"Entering our third century of continuous operation, the mission remains unchanged: to maintain and develop skill in seamanship, to effect a change in maritime law towards the development of the American Merchant Marine, to assist the seamen of other countries towards the establishment of the Brotherhood of the Sea." The origins of the Sailors' Union of the Pacific go back to March 6, 1885, when the Coast Seamen's Union was organized on the San Francisco waterfront by a group of three hundred sailors dissatisfied by the wages and conditions aboard ship that existed at that time. In 1886, the Steamship Sailors' Union was organized and in 1891 merged with the Coast Seamen's Union to form the Sailors' Union of the Pacific. The reasons for that merger are clearly stated in the preamble to the SUP Constitution: "...having been organized separately... and having thoroughly learned the value of organization, and further, that two organizations of the same craft are not for the best interests of men working at the said craft, we have determined to form one Union..." The Sailors' Union of the Pacific has been in continuous operation, through good times and bad, for over 121 years-an achievement unequaled by any maritime union in the world.
