Job Description: Fairfax Water, the largest water supplier in Virginia is seeking an experienced carpenter who will act as a lead carpenter and perform a variety of skilled carpentry work required in the operation of a water supply facilities.

Typical duties include:

* Assembling, making or repairing boxes for tools and equipment, barricades, sash and window frames, door frames, doors, screens, office furniture and other wooden fixtures; replacing broken glass in doors and windows; building and erecting partitions, panels, sheet rock, sheds, scaffolding and other construction work; and installing locks, door checks, springs, transom blocks and other hardware measures.
* Repairing and maintaining all existing structures to include such work as: building concrete forms, pouring and finishing concrete; roofing; painting; performing carpentry duties relating to mechanical maintenance; placing masonry units including tile; and installing floors, baseboards, molding and ceiling tile.
* Providing guidance and direction to subordinates.
* Ordering supplies and equipment; keeping records and making reports and preparing cost estimates for repairs.

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma supplemented by the completion of an accredited apprentice training program and a minimum of three years progressively responsible related carpentry experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and knowledge.

Other Qualifications include:

* Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods, practices, tools and equipment used in carpentry work.
* Good knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
* Ability to work from plans, specifications and sketches.
* Ability to maintain records, make cost estimates and order material and equipment.

Additionally,qualified applicants will be able to perform heavy physical work to include lifting up to 50lbs and be able to wear a respirator.

Fairfax Water is Virginia’s largest water utility, serving one out of every five Virginians who obtain their water from public utilities. Nearly 1.5 million people in the Northern Virginia communities of Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Alexandria depend on Fairfax Water for superior drinking water.

Chartered by the Virginia State Corporation Commission as a public, non-profit water utility, Fairfax Water operates two water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 270 million gallons per day. The plants include the Corbalis Treatment Plant operating on the dependable and free flowing Potomac River in the northwestern area of Fairfax County, and the Griffith Treatment Plant located on the impounded Occoquan River in the southeastern area. Water is distributed throughout Fairfax Water’s service area through more than 3,200 miles of water mains.

Fairfax Water produces, on average, 148 million gallons of water per day. Over 235,000 mostly residential accounts in Fairfax County comprise about 60 percent of total water sales., Approximately 40 percent of total water sales is wholesaled to Loudoun and Prince William Counties and the City of Alexandria. Revenues in 2005 were $120 million.

Fairfax Water is governed by a ten-member Board of Directors, composed of Fairfax County citizens, appointed by the elected Board of Supervisors of Fairfax County. A General Manager, supported by a senior staff of engineering and business professionals, manages the day-to-day operations of Fairfax Water.
